Leila Restaurant - Lebanese and Morrocan Food

Welcome to Leila Restaurant. On a busy but cold Tuesday night in Ealing, this Lebanese and Morrocan restaurant welcomed me in. After running late to meet my brother for dinner, I was ready for some classic middle eastern dishes. I was thinking of Hummus, babaganoush and a mixed grill specifically.

From the description on the site, you need to do a bit more digging to see the whole range of food on offer. There is a lot.

A bit about the restaurant, by the restaurant.

At Leila restaurant in Ealing, we specialise in authentic and fusion dishes from across Morocco and the Middle East. With great food, a relaxing setting and friendly staff Leila is an ideal place for lunch, dinner, functions and parties. See our Dine-In Menu (PDF).

With a quirky mix of Lebanese and Moroccan dishes, the menu offers a relatively short and concise selection of dishes made with fresh ingredients, flavoursome and generously portioned.

With so much on the menu, we had to ask our waiter for some help.

Between the two hungry brothers, we ordered a mix of our usual favourites and some new things to try. With the help of our Friendly waiter Nadal, we went for:

  • Leila Fried Bread & Zaatar: strange dish, but really addictive
  • Lebanese Dip tasting platter: humus, moutabal, tabouleh, kabis, spiced olives
  • Fried Falafel - chick peas, broad beans and spices
  • Batata Darna - Sauteed cubed potatoes with garlic & coriander
  • Mixed Grill - chicken and lamb pieces with minced lamb kebab

All good dishes to start the evening.
The fried bread concept still has me confused. It is not something i have ever seen before at a middle eastern restaurant. It's not that it wasn't nice, it was just very strange. The strips of fries bread covered in spice didn't really offer much and the crunch was missing a fair bit too. However this didn't stop us constantly eating it.

The Lebanese platter of dips was a great sharing dish. Creamy, yet textured hummus, with moutabel  (like babaganoush) which had lots of garlic and a zingy tabouleh to match. This is a platter, where if you didn't have to worry about saving space for mains, you could easily devour by yourself.

I did have to save space for the main course and this was a mixed grill. The lamb and chicken pieces were very tender and well marinated. Charred BBQ flavour and texture, whilst eating in a cosy setting made you feel like you could be in a warm Moroccan restaurant, minus the beer maybe.

Leila is amongst quite a few other restaurants in Ealing, but stands out for its flavours and venue itself. Welcoming diners with its new Afternoon Tea means it will suit all. The Tea also gives diners the opportunity to try all the favourites in a delicate and balanced way. Sign me Up!

Will be back soon.

GOOD TIMES:
The two main stars, the Lebanese sharing platter and the Mix Grill

WATCH OUT: The Fried Bread, a strange dish, go for something else

OMG: Good service and they do an Afternoon TEA too. WOW
