Where do I start? Why did I do a beginners acting class? What was I hoping to achieve and did I enjoy it? Last question first, I enjoyed every minute of the seven week course by City Academy in Islington. I was lucky I had a good group to share it with and more importantly my older brother. I did this to try something new and obviously I had to start from the beginning. The aim was to have fun and finally see if I could act in front of strangers. So what did we do and what did I learn?
We played games: ball games, improvisation games, acting games (obviously) and a game called Zip, Zap Boing. It was a lot of fun and i would recommend it to anyone. What did I learn: Off stage, On stage, Offer and Accept. You have to differentiate between being on stage and off and prepare properly. Once on stage, when working with fellow actors, you have to be ready for all sorts and when someone OFFERs you something that you may not expect, you need to ACCEPT this and work with it. This is definitely a lesson for life too; unexpected events will also occur and it is how we deal with it that can define us. I may be bold enough to put my monologue on the site. When I first did it in class, I froze. I forgot my lines half way through (this was a major mistake and sin) and once that happened I blanked out. Five minutes later I remembered all the words. Because I didn't practice enough I wasn't ready to perform in front on an audience. Lesson learnt 100%- practice, practice , PRACTICE. It was great to try something new and learn more about myself along the way. What shall I do next?
