• LOVE FOOD, LIVE FOODIE •
A lunch time catch up and off we went to Jackson & Rye in Soho. On the corner of wardour street and old Compton road, this Anerican diner/ bistro of sorts comes to life with its wide variety of dishes. My visit here comprised of mac'n'cheese, lobster and fried buttermilk chicken. How do you describe that as a food category?
To start with I was able to share with my friend the truffled mac'n'cheese and 1/2 lobster. A good match and if they wanted to merge the two together then even better. The lobster came out with all he necessary equipment to prize all the meat from the lobster. It was tasty and squeezed over with lemon juice was just what I wanted. The mac'n'cheese had a rich flavour to it and this came from the truffle.
For my main course, I had heard about the buttermilk fried chicken so went for it. Light and crispy with added spices of cayenne and paprika added a zingy sweetness.
The chicken with the slaw was a great combo and with a side of chips made it more filling. A great comparison for Jackson & Rye it would be Grillshack. I think after visiting the two I would prefer to go to Grillshack.
The wide variety here though means it is a great option and with grills and a very attentive service means I will go again.
P.S I heard the toilets were very nice too. Thanks Joyce.

Pedestrians feel like they own the road. Cyclists feel like they aren't looked after so they do what they want. Drivers have the vehicle, protection and speed so they will do as they please. All feel as if the roads were made for them. So who is the King of the Road?
The roads are not safe anymore. Too many people, too many bikes and a whole load of cars. With no one following any of the rules it makes it a dangerous environment. I've created this site to say what I like and today I am going to moan about people on the streets.
As well as cyclists, pedestrians are not guilt free either. The other week when running back from work I ran into another guy. That is just plain stupid from the both of us. Londoners more so are always in a rush and unfortunately are looking out for number one only. So what do we do? Cycle lanes? Running Lanes? 20mph zones?
My suggestion would be for specific lanes for different users. This will make things a lot clearer and safer for everyone. It may lead to more congestion for cars, but if it is safer then fine. The main thing for everyone is to use some common sense and not be so selfish. Because at the moment there is no King, just a lot of Jokers on the streets.
Thank you to Twizoo and MotherClucker for the special delivery yesterday lunch time. I lucked out and won a competition and received a meal for four, which I gratefully shared with my colleagues.
The meal for four included an array of chicken (well two chicken burgers, two portions of chicken strips and two portions of mac' n' cheese).
The southern style rub and batter on the chicken was very tasty and didn't have the sense of grease as you would expect from some so called fast food chain chicken restaurants/takeaway joints.
MotherClucker describe themselves/their chicken as "tea brined, buttermilk soaked, twice battered fried chicken". The slight spice and herbs give it a good kick and make it feel like a new addition to the food scene.
Handy tools (cutlery) by Twizoo and a clever way to continue their promotion too. The app, looks at a list of restaurants near you and through Twitter they look at the different reviews and rank the places by location and feedback.
Good idea and Good restaurant- #winning combination.
Thank you again.
I'm being spoilt now. Two BBQs now and the food is always so good. The weather held out this time too and there is nothing better.
For this BBQ, hosted by the lovely Faye and Matt, we were treated to some amazing food from Claire and Gavin. Claire made over 40 amazing burgers (including Chilli burgers) and they were really good. Fresh, hand made and well prepared these were a great way to start the BBQ. I don't have any pictures, which I am sorry about.
My dad has been gracing my family with BBQ for many, many years. This weekend with the World Cup final about to start I requested some more BBQ time and I volunteered to make burgers and my dad was to go for the chicken. The results are above and below and they made for a good night.
To end the weekend on a high, Germany won the World Cup. Although I wanted Argentina to win the game I was able to win £20. Oh Happy days.
Thank you to Dan for getting me tickets to Wireless yesterday. A great day and great performances, highlights were OutKast and Bruno Mars.
the venue was absolutely packed, so I didn't get all the best pictures for you- sorry
Bruno Mars was the headline Act for Sunday and he was amazing. This guy has it all, singing voice, musician, dancer and all round seems like a great guy to be around. Fireworks at the end highlighted a great day.
Bruno was a great performer and has all the hits for a good show. Check him out on your: https://maineventspecials.com/bruno-mars-tour/
Quite a poor picture- but that is 'BRUNO, BRUNO' on the drums
