Balthazar London: Restaurant Review

There seems to be a French takeover in London. As a classic of cuisines, France has influenced us all. Balthazar in Covent Garden is not new, but it has taken me a while to visit.

Balthazar is "Great French bistro food, good wine and friendly service are the order of the day." Their words, aiming to sum up what they are about.

The venue is very nice and charming. The restaurant feels very grandiose, almost in a way like the Delauney or Wolseley, however, a bit more welcoming.

I was here for a work lunch this time round, so I was not overly greedy about what I ordered.

Therefore, there was no starter for me and just straight to the main course. I ordered the Sirloin Steak. This was a sliced sirloin steak which comes with a Bernaise Sauce. Very french! I changed this up a bit and went for a Peppercorn sauce, which the waitress applauded and gave me a wink of approval. I was proud of myself for this.

I have heard mixed reviews about Balthazar and this left me apprehensive about the quality of the food. One common theme is that I should go for the breakfast, rather than lunch or dinner. This means, I have to go back.

My sirloin steak was cooked to my liking on the inside, however the outside had a burnt taste to it. Not good; this bitterness did not get any better and the more I ate and colder the meat got, the worse the taste.

I will not hesitate to go back to Balthazar as I felt this visit was not a fair or true reflection of its quality. Next time, however, will be for their breakfast and we will see what they can deliver.
