Big Fernand: Viva la France, New burger in London

I just had to go didn't I?. A new burger place had opened in London, it was mentioned in the press, a colleague had sent me extra info about it and it was just round the corner. So I went and all by myself too.

I actually didn't plan on going last week, I thought I would be social and go with someone else but it wasn't meant to be. Off for a walk i went and when I reached Big Fernand I was handed a menu and that was it.

As a side note to what makes the Big Fernand very special is that you can make your own burger and customise it too. Supposedly there are over 3,000 combinations which is enough to entice every burger lover. The French have now truly arrived into the London burger scene and following from Le Bun, I would say that they are doing a good job.

There it is

The burger i ordered was the La Bartholome, this came with Raclette cheese, bacon, caramalised onions, chives and a barbecque sauce. When i unwrapped the burger i was quite suprised to just see a bun. It was almost someone had transformed a burger into a pie. Where was all the good stuff? Where was my beef, my bacon, my cheese.
... It was trapped inside!

The raclette cheese, which was made for melting was perfect for this burger and the beef and all the extras were very tasty. As a package it worked really well and the use of the bun to encase it all worked well. There was no fear of a collapsing bun or a soggy bottom. I have to say that the bacon didn't really add to much extra to the burger, it was probably lacking that crispyness which would have made for a nice change to the texture of the burger.
The patty was cooked well and tasty and as always the burger is a package for me. Other bloggers will give you more details about the type of meat, tenderness etc, ME- i will say that it is good.

A good new edition to the burger scene in London, it is not overcrowded and I welcome more to come along. The Brits are doing it well, the Americans too and now the French have arrived.
