It is all about the Lifeofshayan team and this week, we have a guest blog from the main man Dan. Here he will be reviewing Flesh and Buns from the Bone Daddies crew.
Hello all from the LOS team. This week i will mostly be talking about FLESH AND BUNS.
Last week my girlfriend and I went to Flesh and Buns which is right in the heart of the seven dials next door to the Donmar theatre in covent garden. The restaurant is located in the basement. At first i thought it was a little dark, it actually created atmosphere and a closeness which i thought was cool. We were seated at one of two long tables which ran the length of the restaurant. The rule at these tables is everyone has to sit across from each other. This is too encourage you to interact with other people sitting either side of you, which cleverly does work a lot of the time. If you come in a larger group or book you can also have a table or a booth which have been placed at either side of the 2 long tables. There is also a bar which is located at the far end of the restaurant. It all feels that they have made good use of the space available
On to the food; the menu is simple and has some good choice on it. For starters we ordered the softshell crab roll and the prawn tempura roll. These are great sushi side dishes full of flavour which both came with a side sauce. My prefered side dish was the prawn tempura as it had a spice added to it which added a nice little kick. There was roughly 4 to 5 pieces each and for a side it was actually very filling.
For mains i ordered the crispy piglet belly which had a tender crispy skin. My girlfriend had the flat iron steak which was cooked medium/rare also very tender too and full of flavour. The mains come with a side salad and sauce which is unique to each dish and compliments the individual meats. The buns which you have to order separately from the mains are a must, the buns are very doughy and soft. Once you've added the mains to the buns it is very filling. The buns soak up a lot of the juices to make them more flavoursome.
By the time we had eaten the mains we were too full to eat any desserts. However we had a look at the menu and they had a good choice and they were all very tempting. It would be something I would like too try next time.
When the bill came i thought the price was a little expensive but on the whole the food was excellent the staff were on point with their service and very attentive throughout. The price wouldn't put me off going again.
Many Thanks LOS readers, stay safe.
