• LOVE FOOD, LIVE FOODIE •
So lifeofshayan is going global. No new fans abroad just the fact that i went on holiday and the food was good. Our first day we probably had the best food, we went to Delfino Mar in Lima, Peru. This was on the recommendation of the hotel receptionist and it was good. Delfino Mar was welcoming and relaxing. It was a busy Saturday so we waited ten minutes to be seated and then we were given the local treatment... Then we told them we were foreigners and needed an English menu "Por Favour". Peruvian cuisine is getting more and more popular here in London with restaurants such as Lima, Ceviche and Andina to name a few. The dish that I knew and wanted desperately was ceviche, which is slightly cooked (or even raw fish) served with lime and lemon juice, coriander, onions and tomatoes too. In Peru they included corn as they love it there and this was lovely. The key to a good ceviche is fresh fish and this was. Drenched in a citrusy dressing and onions Laura and I devoured it as a shared starter. For our mains Laura went for a shrimp dish which came with a creamy sauce (above) and rice. I went for grilled swordfish with shrimps and squids (below). Laura and I both agree that my fish was a lot better. The creamy shrimps weren't that great and would have been a lot better without that creaminess and more freshness. When you are by the sea you expect fresher flavours. I won't criticise it too much as I think it was our fault choosing that dish. My dish however was really good. On a hot plate the fish sizzled and with it the great flavours. The swordfish and then crispy squids were amazing and Laura couldn't keep her hands off my food. A good portion size and a beer with our food meant the holiday had started perfectly. The star of the show was the ceviche and it had marked our arrival in Peru.
