Chelsea unbeaten, the rest of the pack faltering and the promoted clubs struggling. It isn't as we expected, the top two last season have had stop start seasons and the rest of the chasing pack are so inconsistent it feels like the league hasn't started yet. Except for Chelsea that is.
So after 14 games for all clubs (a bit over a third), what trends are we seeing?
In spite of Chelsea running away with it, the rest of the league has been exciting and unexpected. Manchester United have gone through a slump worse than David Moyes but have now bounced back to be in the top four. With all their injuries they are probably a surprise package, but the top four is the limit for them i feel. Other surprises for me have to be West Ham and Southampton. Both have hit the ground running and their new signings have adjusted to the league really well. A good start has given confidence and belief to both that they can achieve. I don't think top four or even top six is achievable for either team but a good start nonetheless. Arsenal and Liverpool have let themselves and their supporters down this season.Despite their poor performances they are managing to hang in there for the battle for top four. I think the realisation has been made quite early for a lot of the pretenders and that is that the title is a two horse race. Liverpool: The target which was set many years ago by Houllier at Liverpool was an average of two points a game, just to reach the top four. As it stands only Chelsea and Man City are ahead of that curve. Liverpool are some way off to reach that target (8 points) but i hope that we can get there. Liverpool's form has picked up albeit slightly and against lesser opposition. However, the team is the same as last year for the most part and therefore the quality remains. The defence is looking a bit stronger and the spark we had in the second half of 2013/13 looks to be returning, especially with Raheem Sterlings form. I won't change my predictions too much from what i said at the beginning of the season. I still feel that the title will go to Man City. They have the best squad and this will ultimately see them through. Chelsea are on fire at the moment but this will never last the whole season and hence will lead to them losing the lead and the title. Their victory last night was important, as they won without Costa, but against a Spurs side that lacked a lot, it won''t be their hardest test. City to win, with the top four rounded out by Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool. Relegation will be Burnley, Leicester and Palace. Good luck ALL.
