From Pop up stall to permanent fan favourite. From fan fave to the top place to visit in London right now. Kricket in Soho is a winner winner for all.
Indian Tapas is becoming more of a thing. For me and my family, Indian food has always been about sharing but nowadays it has become formalised, with Talli Joe restaurant, Gunpowder and now Kricket. Here the restaurant mimics the Barrafina style of restaurant, with seating around the bar, with a casual, yet busy feel in the heart of London.
"Kricket was first founded in a tiny 20-seat shipping container in Brixton. The restaurant is a modern memoir of time spent living and working in Mumbai where our story started, and which still heavily influences everything we do. Combining British ingredients with the authentic flavours, aromas and spices of India, our focus from the start has been to create seasonal, modern Indian plates and drinks, served in a relaxed space."
Dishes we had were:
-Bone marrow & cep kulcha
-Samphire pakoras, date & tamarind chutney, chilli garlic mayonnaise
-Pumpkin, makhani sauce, fresh paneer, hazelnut crumble, puffed wild rice
-Tandoori monkfish, coconut chutney
-Keralan fried chicken, curry leaf mayonnaise, pickled mouli
-Lamb chops, black stone flower, wild garlic chutney
-Misti doi, pomegranate, rose, pistachio
Now I look back, it was quite a fair bit. After all these dishes, Laura and I were full. But more importantly we were happy.
I've made sure to include the full description for each dish as each component made it special. The accompanying sauces and garnishes added so much.
The array of colours and flavours were amazing. This combined with the buzz in the restaurant are a few reasons why Kricket is a must for any foodie.
Some clear examples of the great compliments on each dish was the curry leaf mayo for the fried chicken. The seasoning on the chicken was perfect and the mayo just added a smooth coating on my tastebuds. Thank you chefs.
This was a theme throughout and means that going back, I know that whatever I order, will have wonderful elements.
I've managed to avoid any cricket puns and that is because the focus is solely on the great food. Whilst I say this, the restaurant is great too and the chefs in front of your eyes are also part of the experience and service. They are there to delight you with their cooking and you feel that the customer is priority here. Barrafina and The Barbary are two restaurants who do this really well.
GOOD TIMES: all the dishes were tasty, don't neglect the sauces.
