Not good enough, just not good enough. It started badly and ended in even worse circumstances. A somewhat decent mid season turned around by a change in formation and the return of Sturridge, came crashing down and highlighted the deficiencies that Liverpool Football Club had in the 2014/15 season.
The season ends with a 6-1 mauling by Stoke FC. Not Barcelona, Chelsea, Bayern Munich or Madrid, but Stoke. What the f£@k has happened? Suarez and Sturridge were on fire last season, Coutinho, Sterling and more importantly Gerrard all chipped in. Oddly enough the defence this season has conceded less goals (just about) but the lack of firepower has cost us. 50 goals less to be precise.
So who to blame and what to blame? Unfortunately the majority of blame has to go the manager. Rodgers, rightly so got a lot of the plaudits but this season he has got it wrong on many occasions. I stick by him and would like him to stay on as manager (I said the same about Hodgson). One more season to get us a trophy and hopefully more consistent. Poor signings and lineups have cost the team. Balotelli, Lambert and Lovren have struggled greatly. Markovic, Moreno and Manquillo have been thrown in at the deep end when not ready and established players were discarded too readily; Johnson, Enrique and Lucas.
All managers are stubborn and rightly so, they should stick by there beliefs and remain strong. However, it just hasn't worked this season. The lows have been too frequent and the season finished in three weeks when consecutive defeats in the league to Man United and Arsenal derailed our Champions League bid and the FA Cup loss to Aston Villa was the nail in the coffin and confined LFC to a season of mediocrity. Outclassed and outfought is what has happened for the majority of the games and the players didnt seem like they cared. That is what has hurt the most as a football fan. The attitude really stinks and the recent fiasco and chaos with Sterling and his contract is a consequence of the whole season and the levels that Liverpool have sunk to.
2014/15 season for Liverpool is what you would call a massive underachievement. A season where not one player has delivered enough quality and where too many have gone missing at key times. Hull versus Liverpool is one example, another was the home game versus Man United and 6-1 to Stoke. Well, enough said.
Where do we go from here. A settled line up first of all is what we need. Why spend £15m on Sakho one season and then £20m on Lovren and not pair them together. Enrique a solid premiership defender has been banished and a CM in Can deployed as a right back as Johnson sits on the bench. The experiment to play Sterling up front worked for a while but why not play a proper striker or do what worked in 2013/14 and play two strikers. I would buy Benteke as the first solution and two midfielders to make us stronger. Done, problem solved and a top four place. That is how bad things have become, a great season is now to be like Arsenal and just get the top four. Sorry, I had to get that dig in. At least Man United didn't win anything either.
