• LOVE FOOD, LIVE FOODIE •
I like good food and I cannot lie. Enough of that.
Lowlander on Drury Lane, between covent garden and holborn can be best described as a beer place that does food. My colleague has mentioned that the burger is amazing but I avoided that recommendation. My friends have mentioned this place because of the beers, especially it's many Belgian beers such as viddet and hoegarden. Laura requested a pub lunch so off we went. To be honest I had no idea what to expect and wasn't even sure of what was on the menu; except a burger. However as a beer place I wasnt surprised to see pub food on the menu- fish and chips, steak and sandwiches. I looked at the menu and immediately I eyed the smoked prime rib. After watching so many American cooking programmes, whenever I see smoked or pulled I need to try it. And just my luck Laura went for the pulled pork in a bun with apple cider sauce. I was hungry and excited, the food came accompanied by chips and onion rings. This was a feast. The flavours were what I expected. Good but not out of this world. The prime rib was juicy although a bit tough but consistent throughout and the BBQ sauce on top helped to add an extra flavour which was needed as it did taste a bit plain without it. The onion rings were nothing special and the chips not that great either. If you want good onion rings go to Byron burger. Laura's pulled pork was quite the same. I think most often pulled pork falls over its own hype. The juicy aspect and tenderness of being able to just "pull" it off never live up to the flavours of a roast pork and crackling combo and hear in the bun I just wanted that something extra. If you don't understand what I just said-I'm sorry. Both dishes were good and I was absolutely stuffed with just a main course. If you are in the area then do try out Lowlander. Friendly place, lots of beer and an extensive menu. It is neither solely a pub or a restaurant but the variety of food and range of beers will keep you occupied.
