Meze, Mixed Grill and BYO.
This is my recipe for a good night. Turkish food like Iranian food is at its best when most simple. Meat, rice, good bread and finally good company. Olives and Figs near Old Spitalfields Market provides all this and with its laid back vibe in the form of its Bring Your Own Alcohol, you can enjoy a cheap fun evening.
As a large group, people chose separately what they wanted, so there was no mixing and matching. However, I ordered the cold meze for two, which i shared with Laura and many of the other couples ordered the same or the hot meze. So where we had humus, taramasalata, tabouleh and other favourites, the hot meze was sausage, ribs, halloumi, falafel and a bit more. So all the usual favourites and all at under £6. Not bad.
For main course, I went for the mixed grill, albeit a smaller version. This was chicken shish, lamb kebab and andana kebab. This was served with rice, salad and a chilli ( as you can see). This was tasty, charred well and the smokiness of the BBQ was dominant and welcomed. A good restaurant with good food and definitely a good price too. I had a very chilled night here and will go back again. Good start to 2016.
