Sourdough Pizza is good quality healthy pizza. The fact that it takes so long to makes, makes you appreciate every bite even more. Sodo in Clapton (and also now in Walthamstow) specialises in this and has been doing so for many years.
The process for Sourdough is about four to five days as yeast is not used and therefore you have to let the fermentation happen naturally. The urge is on London and the UK to eat more natural and healthy foods and Sodo is perfect for this. Thin and crispy bases are layered on top of the tomato base with good ingredients, such as Spinach, Pancetta and your usual favourites. No ham and pineapple.
I had delayed my visit because Clapton felt a world away. However, with good transport links and now one also in Walthamstow I think that Sodo will become more and more popular. The Pizza itself was very tasty, although not one of my favourites. The base itself was very stable and crispy but i felt it needed a bit more flavour to it, like the homeslice base. The toppings and the pizza as a whole is a great size and filling. I wanted to try their garlic bread as a starter but feel this would have had me in trouble for the pizza itself.
The staff were very friendly and attentive and with the restaurant itself having a garden area it is one to go for in the summer. As always, if you do go, make sure you invite me.
