Is it one of my new favourite new burgers? Did I not want it to end? What do you look for in a burger? Burger Bear and Bear Hug Brewing Co have teamed up to bring the "Stokey Bears" to Stoke Newington. I actually went looking for this last week but couldn't find. My phone died and i lost any human functionality and common sense, so just drove for about an hour. This time round my phone was ready, charged up and i memorized the route and i found it. After last weeks interview with Nick Andrew from HamburgerMe, I think the three B's of bacon, beef and bun are quite important too. So i ordered the Grizzly Bear, which is a cheeseburger with smokey bacon and bacon jam. The two different textures of bacon make this burger a winner and definitely one that i will and want to try again. The smokey bacon was nice and crispy and was just what i wanted. The bacon jam added an extra element and the fact that there were still crispy pieces of bacon in this made it even better. The fries were generous but not that great. We went for the standard option which just had rosemary on it. There is also the choice of Angry fried which comes with their signature sauce of Helluvapino relish and their #Holyfuck sauce. Which i heard can be quite dangerous., after seeing what they looked like and having my plain fries i realized i made a mistake. My fires needed something extra and some seasoning too. Something for the Stokey Bears crew to work on. Going back to the burger i will say one thing. I did not want it to end. The beef was on the rare side which worked well and the bun seemed to be extra glazed. The shine it had rubbed of on my hands and left me licking my fingers. I could have gone for a double or event triple burger but i need to look after my waistline and my wallet. A good Saturday night ended with one of the beers from the Bear Hug Brewing co. I went for their larger and it was nice and tasty. Not my favourite, not disgusting; but at almost £5 it is a bit dear. Dinner for two in itself was over £15 a head. Nowadays unfortunately in London this is the going rate for a burger, fries and a drink.
One Liner: Lovely burger, with great beef and bacon. Address: 129 Stoke Newington High Street, London, N16 0PH
