At the end of the season the deserved winner claims the premiership trophy. My predictions changed a few times throughout the year: first from Chelsea winning the league and me being content with second for Liverpool to Man City winning the league and for Liverpool to finish fourth. In the end I was right at times and wrong at times.
What a season it was, no more Ferguson, Wenger another season without a trophy and the 'Happy One' had returned. Gareth Bale left Spurs with £100m to spend and they broke their transfer record two or three times and had planned on getting Champions League football and Liverpool had the same mission brief too. The three promoted clubs had the joint aim of finishing 17th in their first season back in the top flight and the rest fought it out over extra points and prizes. The 5 key points of 2013/14: Return of Suarez - 5 games banned after biting Ivanovic last year and a summer full of transfer rumours and a £40m bid by Arsenal meant Liverpool had only one recognised quality striker. Suarez returned and with it did the goals and the skills. 31 goals in the league with no penalties and 12 assist to show that Suarez was a team player and helped Liverpool score 101 goals. Man City Squad and Improved away form- the best squad in the Premiership and it was the squad that helped Man City win the title. Certain players stood out, such as Yaya Toure, Kompany, Ageuro and Zabaleta. But when these players weren't there, the rest stood up such as Negredo, Navas, Dzeko and Demichelis. The team started with some shocking away results and this wasn't based on performance, but complacency. Man City knew they were too good and so took it easy in certain games, such as Cardiff away and Aston Villa away. This was resolved in the second half of the season and led them to winning the league. Same again for Arsenal - unfortunately their lack of a big squad severely dented their aspirations of winning the league. Key players in Ramsey and Walcott missed large chunks of the campaign and the reliance on Giroud meant that fatigue caught up with Arsenal in March and April. The games against Liverpool and Everton away knocked their confidence and led to them fading away and doing their usual end of season slump. #InMoyesWeTrust- never the best choice for manager at Man United and so it proved. David Moyes took United from Champions to 'Chump'ions in a few months. Home defeats to West Brom, Newcastle, Everton and Sunderland summed up a very poor season. David Moyes was out of his depth from the off and was just a bad decision in the first place. (I told you so). The un 'Happy One' - Mourinho came back and let his team, down. He ended the season saying that Chelsea improved and they had. The key battles they won, but the war was lost against the likes of Sunderland, West Brom and 19th Century football. The lack of a goalscorer cost Chelsea the league- for which I was very happy with. Overall I am happy with what Liverpool achieved, but we were oh so close. Can we bounce back next season and build on the win or will Liverpool revert back to mediocrity and fighting for fourth? Special mentions also go to: Tony Pulis, who did a great job and I think has set up Palace for many years in the Premiership. Gus Poyet, for believing in miracles. Alan Pardew, for headbutting a player. Southampton, great football and a core of English players. Referees, for all their shocking decisions this season. They were truly awful. Now enjoy the summer and the world cup, because football is coming home.
