More Pizza for all my amazing readers. This review is for Yard Sale Pizza.
So it looks like I just eat Burgers, Curry and Pizza.
Well, let me stop you there, because I eat other things too. Check out my Food Club here for proof.
On to the subject at heart. Yard Sale Pizza is a London joint that opened its second branch in Finsbury Park earlier this year. With their initial base in Clapton, Yard Sale moved further north to represent and more importantly, feed me.
Again, the theme here is big pizzas. Different from Homeslice and Joe Public, where slices are offered. Yard Sale just gives you the option of big pizza or bigger pizza; 12 inches or 18 inches. So slightly smaller than the other two at its biggest but more than enough for two to share.
The back story to Yard Sale is a good one and I will share it with you, using a lot of their words. I hope they don't mind.
Three friends, one who was called Johnny, made his own oven in his back yard in Homerton. This is where they honed their craft on all their friends and family with weekly supper clubs. As word spread and more and more people got to try out their unique stone baked pizza, the three friends knew they were onto something a bit special.
Feeling that there was a lack of good quality takeaway pizza in town they decided to set up shop in Clapton in May 2014. It instantly proved a hit with locals and pizza aficionados alike and in 2016 they opened a second branch for those in N4.
The Pizza's we ordered and shared between us were the THE SQUASH (Butternut squash, goats cheese, rocket & honey drizzle) and the HOLY PEPPERONI (Cobble Lane pepperoni, regular pepperoni & spicy Nduja sausage). Oran joined us later and he ordered an extra pizza which was the FULL HOUSE (Pepperoni, fennel sausage, spicy beef, black olives, mixed peppers & mushrooms).
Lots of ingredients in that paragraph above.
The Garlic Pizza bread with rosemary and salt was a big portion for two, especially considering the size of the Pizza that followed. It was tasty, but when you see Garlic and Rosemary on the list, you want a lot of it desperately. It wasn't to be. I felt that they needed to be a bit more generous with these two ingredients. Alas, it was good but not great.
Good, not great, is the theme for the Pizzas. Although it is local, I unfortunately will not rush back to visit. I will happily get takeaway however. The Full House, was very similar to a Supreme with an array of toppings, but the flavour did not differ much to the Pizza Hut version. This is not a compliment, but also not so much of a negative, just a description.
Remember, Yard Sale has good Pizza. the Squash had that slightly healthy feel to it with all the the Butternut Squash. However, it did not have the taste that made me want more and more. A good first bite, but the goats cheese did not pack the punch you would expect and the rocket was not too peppery. Almost too subtle from both.
Yard Sale offers good Stone baked Pizza with a relaxed vibe and good service. It is a nice local joint which serves local beer and you are not rushed to order or eat.. Yard Sale will definitely continue to get visitors and if I am not one of them, it is because I am lazy and ordered delivery. Welcome to the hood and thanks for the good food.
